Royal Tomb of King Seongdeok

Hello, along National Highway 7, which runs from Gyeongju to Ulsan, you will find the Tomb of King Seongdeok (702-737), the 33rd king of Silla, and its tomb platform. King Seongdeok was the father of King Gyeongdeok, the 35th king of Silla, who built the World Heritage Sites of Bulguksa Temple and Seokguram Grotto . The King Seongdeok Bell hanging in the garden of the Gyeongju National Museum is also said to have been made by King Gyeongdeok to commemorate his father, King Seongdeok.

Located on the outskirts of the southeast hills of Kyogyorupong, west of Tohamsan Mountain, the Royal Tomb of King Seongdeok is an ancient tomb with a circumference of 46 meters, a diameter of 14.5 meters, and a height of 4.5 meters. The lower part of the tomb is surrounded by face stones, and the outside of the face stones are supported by triangular pedestals. Between the triangular pedestals, stone statues of the Twelve Heavenly Generals, each about 116 cm tall, wearing armor and holding a weapon, stand on a square stone.

Surrounding the royal tomb are the Four Lions Stone, the Scholar Stone, and a short distance away is the only remaining turtle base of King Seongdeok's tomb, with no headboard and a stone monument standing on it.
