Choryang Milmyeon

Milmyeon specialty restaurant near Busan KTX Station

Near Busan Station, which connects Seoul and Busan in about 2 hours and 40 minutes, there are many restaurants frequented by Busan locals, such as Shanghai Street, where you can eat Chinese food, and Dwaeji (pork) Kalbi Street. Among them, a famous restaurant serving Milmyeon, a cold noodle dish that is a Busan specialty in the summer, is located just outside Exit 1 of Busan Station on Busan Subway Line 7.

Milmyeon is a cold noodle dish made with wheat flour, unlike ordinary cold noodles. Since the outbreak of the Korean War in 1950, it has become popular as an affordable dish for the common people, and is now a representative summer dish of Busan. Milmyeon is topped with thinly sliced cucumber, a slice of pork, and a slice of boiled egg.

There are several famous restaurants in Busan that only serve milmyeon, but Choryang Milmyeon, located near Busan KTX Station where many tourists come and go, only serves three dishes: mul milmyeon, bibim milmyeon, and wangmandu. This allows travelers in a hurry to catch their train to quickly finish their meal and get on the train. This restaurant mainly serves milmyeon in the summer, but after the summer season ends, they also serve kalguksu, a hot noodle dish cut with a knife. When you sit down at the table, a kettle filled with the classic meat broth for milmyeon is brought to you, and as you sip a cup of the hot meat broth, a round, simple, and cute milmyeon is placed on the table. The chewy noodles are cut once or twice with scissors to make them easier to eat, and after adding vinegar and hot pepper to taste and stirring, you can enjoy the refreshing taste of milmyeon.

Wangmandu (Royal Steamed Bun) This restaurant serves six wangmandu (steamed buns) per person, but they are so large that many customers come just to eat this instead of a meal. The bun skin is thin and filled with plenty of meat, and it is delicious when dipped in soy sauce. For those traveling to Busan in midsummer! Why not enjoy the city of Busan in summer by eating the refreshing milmyeon, a summer specialty of Busan?
