Hwangnam Bread

Hello, Gyeongju, a representative tourist destination in Korea, has many historical relics to see in the city, and Hwangnam Pan, a famous Gyeongju bun shop, is located near the Ancient Tombs Park, where the ancient tombs of kings and nobles are concentrated. Choi Yeong-hwa, a native of Gyeongju, started making it in Hwangnam-dong, Gyeongju in 1939, and after a large-scale excavation survey of Daereungwon in 1974, it moved to its current location in Hwango-dong, where the third generation of his grandson continues to preserve the traditional taste of Hwangnam Pan. 

Hwangnam Pan is filled with Korean red bean paste and baked in the oven, and the thin, crispy crust of the freshly baked Hwangnam Pan and the hot, not too sweet red bean paste are a masterpiece. Hwangnam Pan, designated the second Gyeongsangbuk-do designated specialty, only has another Hwangnam Pan run by the same brothers in Gyeongju city, and directly managed stores at Gyeongju Station, Dongdaegu Station, and Daegu Station, so on weekends, the Hwangnam Pan in Hwango-dong near the ruins is always crowded with tourists coming to buy buns, and it is a popular store where you have to wait for more than an hour.

Also, the shelf life of Hwangnam Bread is 4 to 5 days at room temperature, but the bun will become a little hard after about 3 days, so we recommend eating it as soon as possible after purchase.

How to get there: After leaving the Intercity Bus Terminal, walk a short distance until you come to the taxi stand and Gyeongju Tourist Information Center. Continue walking until you come to the main street. Turn left on that street and you will see the Express Bus Terminal. With your back to the Express Bus Terminal, go straight to the left and you will see a large ancient tomb on the opposite side of the road. Go straight past the tomb and the shop will be on your left.
