Gyeongju Historic Area


The historical sites of Gyeongju City are registered as UNESCO World Heritage Sites and are divided into five districts. The Gyeongju Historic Areas are the collective name for these five districts.

Minamiyama Districtis a treasure trove of Silla Buddhist art, with 37 treasures and many historical sites.Wolseong DistrictIt is home to the remains of palaces from the 1000-year Silla dynasty, as well as Gyerim and Wolji Pond (site of the East Palace and Imhaejeon Hall).Daereungwon areais an area where the ancient tombs of Silla kings, queens, and aristocrats are distributed, and there are many historical sites and ancient tombs.Hwangnyongsa Temple Areais the quintessence of Silla Buddhism and is home to the Hwangnyongsa Temple and Bunhwangsa Stone Pagodas.Yamashiro DistrictIt was the core of the royal capital's defenses and included Minghuo Mountain Fortress.

The Gyeongju Historic Area is home to a concentration of outstanding Buddhist and lifestyle sites from the Silla period and is known as an important place to convey the history and culture of Silla.
