It is located in Namsan, one of the five districts of the Gyeongju Historic Areas, a World Heritage Site.

Gyeongju Namsan is a mountain located south of Gyeongju city and is an important archaeological site where visitors can fully appreciate the Buddhist culture of the Silla period.

It stretches 8km north to south and 4km east to west and has over 468 peaks, including Geumopong Peak (494m above sea level) and Gouisan Mountain (180m above sea level), and over 40 valleys. There are many relics and Buddhist ruins scattered throughout the mountains, including over 100 temple ruins, over 80 stone Buddha statues, and over 60 stone pagodas.

Namsan, one of the Gyeongju Historic Areas that was registered as a World Heritage Site in December 2000, is dotted with numerous Buddhist ruins, with temples scattered like stars and pagodas lined up in a row (Sesameseongtapangwangae) according to the Records of the Three Kingdoms. The area boasts beautiful natural scenery that is just as impressive as the numerous cultural ruins.
