A tour to see the representative Buddhist ruins of Dongnamsan Mountain in Gyeongju, a World Heritage Site where the Buddhist culture of Silla flourished
Namsan, which towers south of Gyeongju city, has been revered as a sacred mountain by the people of Silla since ancient times. The remains of about 150 Silla temples have been confirmed within the mountain, and it is known as an open-air Buddhist museum where you can see many stone Buddhas and stone pagodas. It was registered as a World Heritage Site in 2000.
This tour takes you on a three-hour hike to the Chilbulam Rock-Carved Stone Buddhas and Sinseonam Rock-Carved Bodhisattva Half-Seated Statue, two representative Silla Buddhist sites in Namsan, located on the eastern coast of Gyeongju, and allows you to enjoy the beautiful Buddhist art of Silla. You will also visit the ancient tomb park in Gyeongju city, Wolseong, the former royal castle of Silla, and the Gyeongju National Museum, a treasure trove of Silla relics.

Gyeongju Chilbulram Temple



Among the Buddhist remains in Namsan, the only one designated as a national treasure (No. 312) is the Shichibutsuam Cliff-carved Stone Buddha Group. The Shichibutsuam Cliff-carved Stone Buddha Group consists of three Buddha figures carved in relief into a large rock face measuring XNUMX meters in height and XNUMX meters in width, and a four-faced Buddha carved into a pillar-shaped rock in front of them.

Shinsen-an


Carved into the cliffs of Tounansan Mountain, Treasure No. 199, the Sinsonan Rock-Carved Bodhisattva Half-Legally Carved, looks as if it is floating on a cloud. The rock face jutting out to the east has been thinly carved into the shape of a halo, into which a rock-carved half-legged bodhisattva about 1.4 meters in height has been carved into relief.
Daeryuen (Ancient Tomb Park, Heavenly Horse Tomb)



4世紀から6世紀にわたって集中的に造成された新羅時代のならではの山のような大きな円墳が密集されている慶州市内の古墳公園。慶州歴史遺跡地区のひとつである大陵苑地区(ユネスコ世界文化遺産)として登録されている大陵苑は、約1万1500余点の数多くの遺物が出土された天馬塚をはじめ、新羅13代の王の味鄒王陵、東西の長さが約80m、高さが25mで慶州の古墳の中で最も大きな皇南大塚など、23基の新羅時代の古墳が約12万5,000坪の平地に散在しています。
Cheomseongdae


Cheomseongdae, built in the 7th century, is said to be the oldest astronomical observatory in the East.Cheomseongdae is known as the oldest astronomical observatory in the East. Located between the Silla Dynasty's palace, Wolseong, and Daereungwon (Heavenly Horse Tomb), where the Silla Dynasty's royal tombs are clustered like mountains, Cheomseongdae was built during the reign of Queen Seondeok (635-647).
Moon Pond (Wild Duck Pond)



Located next to the Silla Royal Palace's Wolseong Fortress, this palace is the largest artificial pond in Silla.
Tsukishiro



Wolseong Fortress is a small castle built from a mixture of earth and stone with a circumference of 2,400 meters. It is surrounded by moats and rivers, making full use of the natural terrain, and was the royal castle where Silla kings lived until their surrender to Goryeo in 935.
Gyeongju National Museum





The Gyeongju National Museum, which displays various relics from the Silla period, covers an area of over 2 square meters and includes the Silla History Hall in the main building, the Silla Art Museum, Wolji Hall, Special Exhibition Hall, Outdoor Garden, and King Seongdeok the Great Bell, with approximately 2 relics on display.
